Psychiatric medication management

Medication management for children, teens, and adults

When you take medication for your mental health, how you feel between appointments matters. CFSS provides ongoing medication management for ages 5 and older. Follow-up visits give you a place to discuss what has changed, raise concerns, and review the treatment plan with your psychiatric provider.

Talk about the changes that matter to you

A follow-up visit is a chance to discuss how a prescribed medication is working, any side effects, and whether the plan needs to change. Explain what feels different in everyday life and what remains difficult.

If taking the medication as prescribed has been difficult, tell your provider. That information belongs in the discussion about your care.

Bring your medication questions to the visit

Write down the questions you want answered so they are easier to remember during your appointment. You can ask:

  • What changes should I watch for, and how will we review whether the medication is helping?
  • Which side effects should I discuss, and when should I contact the provider?
  • How will follow-up appointments and questions between visits be handled?
  • What should I tell you about other medicines, vitamins, or supplements I take?

Discuss medication changes with your prescriber

People can respond differently to the same medication. If you have concerns, talk with your prescriber before changing or stopping a prescribed medicine. Ask them to explain any recommended change and what you should do next.

For a child or teen, ask how consent, privacy, and caregiver involvement will be handled. Staff can explain what applies to the young person's age and situation.

Arrange your psychiatric follow-up

CFSS offers in-person and telehealth psychiatric services through its Reading and Pottsville offices. Psychiatrists see clients by telehealth, and a certified registered nurse practitioner provides in-person care. You must be in Pennsylvania during a telehealth visit.

Call the Reading or Pottsville office to ask about scheduling. Psychiatric services require an appointment; walk-in visits are for intake assessments only. For a new appointment in Spanish, call Reading.
