Mobile Mental Health Treatment

In-home mental health treatment for adults

You may need mental health support even when attending an office appointment is difficult. CFSS brings individual or family therapy to the homes of eligible adults age 21 and older in Berks and Schuylkill counties.

When getting to an office stands between you and care

Mobile Mental Health Treatment, often called MMHT, is for adults whose health or circumstances interfere with their ability to take part in clinic-based outpatient care. An intake assessment helps determine whether in-home treatment is appropriate for you.

The program brings the therapy appointment into your home, so a difficulty attending the clinic can be considered as part of planning your care.

Mental health care in a familiar place

A CFSS therapist meets with you face to face in your home for individual or family therapy. You can talk about concerns affecting daily life and work toward goals that matter to you.

Psychiatric services and medication management are also available through the program by telehealth. Therapy visits take place in person at home, while appointments with a psychiatric provider take place remotely.

Could in-home treatment be right for you?

The program considers more than whether travel is inconvenient. You must meet the medical necessity criteria for outpatient mental health treatment and have at least one of the following that interferes with or prevents participation in clinic-based outpatient care:

  • A medical condition that interferes with or prevents your participation in clinic-based care.
  • A psychiatric condition that interferes with or prevents your participation in clinic-based care.
  • Significant stressors in your life or circumstances that interfere with or prevent your participation in clinic-based care.

An assessment helps determine eligibility

You must also agree to participate in MMHT as prescribed. During intake, the clinical team considers your needs and whether the medical necessity criteria are met.

You do not need to work out your eligibility before calling. Describe the difficulty you are having with attending office-based treatment and ask about the MMHT assessment.

You can ask for help directly

You can call CFSS yourself and ask about Mobile Mental Health Treatment. Your current therapist or another agency may also refer you. An intake assessment follows the referral to determine medical necessity.

For Berks County, call our Reading office. For Schuylkill County, call our Pottsville office. For a new-client call in Spanish, call Reading, which handles Spanish-language new referrals for both locations.

Support for children and young people

CFSS also offers Intensive Behavioral Health Services, or IBHS, for children and young people. That program can provide support at home, in school, and in the community, with its own assessment and referral process.

New IBHS clients are currently accepted through the Reading office in Berks County only. Adult MMHT and IBHS are separate programs, so tell us the age of the person you are seeking help for when you call.

Questions about insurance

CFSS accepts Medicaid through Community Care Behavioral Health. Contact the office to discuss your county, coverage, and the MMHT assessment. Coverage and program eligibility must be considered for your situation.
